I have chosen to break down my assortment of best mattresses to buy into these classes for the simple reason that the best mattress type for one sort of sleeper isn’t necessarily going to be the best for another. BEST MATTRESSES DETAILED

OUR STAFF PICKS

These are some of the our team’s personal favorites. Whether they are beds some of us sleep on or ones we voted as the top of the best, these mattresses are true standouts in our book.

CASPER

With beds to satisfy almost every need (in the budget-friendly Essential to the lavish Wave), Casper mattresses are worth all the hype.

While I think most people could benefit from a night’s rest on a Casper, I would primarily recommend them for anyone who suffers from chronic back or side pain. This is for a few reasons but mostly has to do with the fact that All the brand’s mattresses employ hybrid construction, which combines different foams together for maximum pressure

DREAMCLOUD

Time to update your mattress and searching through the bed in a box market for the first time? The DreamCloud is a excellent option for the ones that want the luxury feel and support of a traditional innerspring mattress with the ease of setup and worth cost of a bed in a box.

The DreamCloud includes a tall hybrid construction with pressure relieving foam on top and a pocketed coil support layer that provides a firm feel that’s excellent for back and stomach sleepers. Another piece of this construction that I love is the high density polyfoam edge support which allows people to sleep near the side of the bed without collapsing the edges, a terrific feature for couples who need the entire surface of the bed.

WINKBEDS

If you’re looking for an ultra-supportive bed, you might want to consider getting your hands on a WinkBeds mattress. Constructed with foam and 2 layers of coils, this bed is great for both combo sleepers and heavier individuals who want a bit of lift to their mattress.

The bed also comes in three different firmness options, so you’ll have the ability to tailor the mattress to your specific sleep preferences. Another fantastic feature? The coil-on-coil structure creates a bunch of airflow throughout the structure, ensuring that things are going to stay nice and cool during the night.

PRESSURE RELIEF

If you’re sleeping on a mattress you inherited from your Great Aunt Theresa or one a former roommate left behind in your apartment, odds are you’ve surrendered yourself to the fact that it probably doesn’t satisfy your precise needs. But so what? It was free, right?

The area where it probably lets you down the most is pressure relief, or its ability to soothe tension at problem areas like the shoulders, hips, and lower back. Of all the changes you’ll see in a new bed purchase, the biggest is probably the difference that comes from going from your old mattress to one which offers ample comfort and relief. Suggestion: The latter is much, much better for you and your wellbeing.

You’ll find this pressure relief in a lot of ways, but I would say the easiest would be to decide on a mattress that features a durable foundation (of either pocketed coils or high-density poly foam) complimented by thick layers of contouring foam.  Best Mattress For Light Person

PURPLE

If you are fairly certain that your sleeping issues stem from a lack of pressure relief, I would suggest checking out the Purple mattress. The bed’s unique hyper-elastic polymer grid provides excellent comfort and relief to the lower back and shoulders because its walls fall to fill in the spaces at these areas.

Though this might not seem any different from the pressure relief you would get from memory foam or latex, I would argue that this grid stands a head above the rest because of how supportive it is; basically, you get to sink in without feeling stuck in the arrangement. This may spell good news for a vast array of sleepers who wish to feel as if they’re sleeping on top of their bed instead of in it.

LEESA

The Leesa is a standout in this category for me because of how good it is at providing uniform pressure relief throughout the body regardless of one’s sleeping position.

While most all-foam beds are pretty good at supplying relief to side and back sleepers, the Leesa is also able to satisfy stomach sleepers due to its top layer of Avena foam. This material is soft yet responds quickly to pressure, lifting up the sleeper and positioning them in addition to the bed. This provides relief to the chest and hips, crucial problem areas for people who doze primarily on their stomachs.

GHOSTBED LUXE

If you are following both pressure relief and temperature regulation, I’d recommend checking out the GhostBed Luxe. Does this all-foam mattress provide targeted relief to sensitive regions, but it is also outfitted with a lot of really innovative cooling technology.

On the pressure relief front, the use of memory foam and the brand’s proprietary Bounce Foam makes a stellar equilibrium of sinkage and support. This means there’s both contouring to alleviate strain in the shoulders and lower back as well as plenty of lift to maintain the spine in a healthy alignment.

BEST MATTRESSES FOR BACK PAIN

Do you ever wake up in the morning with a dull, throbbing pain in your lumbar area? Do you toss and turn in the night seeking out that magical position which may alleviate the distress along your spine? If so, you might just suffer from chronic back pain and could perhaps use a mattress upgrade to help with this back pain.

I should note that back pain can result from numerous lifestyle, genetic, and physical factors, so I like to consider changing your mattress as just one of several measures that could be taken to address the issue. If you are suffering from back pain, it is best to check with a medical professional to develop a plan that’ll address the underlying causes and symptoms. Remember, nothing on this page ought to be taken as medical advice.

That having been said, a general rule of thumb is that you’ll need a supportive bed (note that firmness does NOT always equal support) with a soothing foam top layer to fill in the space at your lumbar area. You’ll also want something which keeps your shoulders in a wonderful alignment with your hips and is, of course, comfy.  Best Mattress For Light Person

LEESA

If your biggest woe comes from stress on your upper back, you’ll want to make certain you snag a mattress that gives as much pressure relief from the lumbar region as it does from the shoulders. The key here is a soft yet supportive foam top layer that’ll offer an even combination of aid throughout the body. Enter the all-foam Leesa mattress.

I like this mattress for back pain problems due to the order of its foam layers, using a section of buoyant Avena foam on top of one of memory foam. This placement may not seem like a big deal, but it really does a lot of great work to relieve tension in the trunk. The sleeper has to sink in for pressure relief but is also buoyed on top of the structure, never having to sacrifice comfort for support.

BEAR

For those athletic sleepers from the group who suffer back pain from long days spent at the gym or outside on the field, the Bear mattress could be the perfect bed for you. Designed with functionality in mind, the Bear is outfitted with graphite-infused memory foam for temperature regulation and comfort as well as a Celliant-blend cover, which some studies suggest can help with recovery.

The bed also sleeps firm, with my testers giving it an ordinary firmness rating of 7, which you can compare to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness. This is a terrific level for most back sleepers, as it pertains to solid support throughout the body.

CASPER

A recent trend in mattress design would be to add zoned support in the layers of the bed. What this signifies is that one or two sections inside a mattress will be comprised of not just a single type of foam (say, memory foam) but a mixture of substances of different firmnesses. Essentially, the goal is to target different areas of the body in various ways to achieve the ultimate in comfort.

In my opinion, one of the best examples of zoned support out there may be found in the Casper. The all-foam bed includes a transition layer built with two different types of poly foam: a milder one at the ends of the bed and a firmer one in the middle. This placement offers pressure relief to the neck and feet while also bringing solid support to the lumbar region, a fantastic combination for anyone dealing with back pain.

BEST INNERSPRING

So far as mattresses are concerned, there is perhaps nothing more classic than an old-fashioned innerspring. These vibrant beds reigned supreme long before the arrival of all-foam versions, and though they have definitely waned in popularity through time, there are still a variety of solid designs out there in the world.

But what makes a great innerspring bed? In my opinion, a quality innerspring has to sleep cool and possess excellent bounce as well as enough support to prevent you from feeling stuck in the structure.

WINKBEDS

Though innersprings are typically better for back and stomach sleepers, those who doze primarily on their sides may still find a lot to enjoy in one of those mattresses, as long as they feature a foam comfort layer for stress relief.

1 such mattress which does this well is your WinkBeds mattress. Straightaway, the sleeper will encounter two inches of super-soft gel memory foam, which offers immediate comfort and contouring to the shoulders and buttocks. Directly below this layer, you’ll find a coil-on-coil design that evokes the buoyant support of traditional innersprings.  Best Mattress For Light Person

SAATVA

If you suffer from back pain, you’ll want a mattress that is likely to fill in the space in your thoracic region with a few targeted pressure relief. There aren’t a lot of innersprings that can do this, but thankfully, the Saatva’s got your back (see what I did there?) .

Does the coil-on-coil design produce a bouncy mattress that keeps the sleeper in addition to the structure, but the mattress also offers a zoned lumbar area specifically designed to alleviate back pain. This greatly reduces the amount of pressure that’s likely to form and generates amazing comfort.

BEST ADJUSTABLE FIRMNESS

As you have likely noticed, most of the info I have provided thus far is terrific for sleepers who know just what they want from their bed. But what about in case you’re not so sure? Yes, you need pressure relief at your shoulders, but does this mean you need to sacrifice firmness? What about if your sleep habits change on a dime depending on what you do during the day?

If any of these thoughts ring true, you may want to invest in a bed with adjustable firmness. These models include layers which can be switched around or altered depending upon your needs in the present time, oscillating between the two firm and soft textures.

LAYLA

The Layla is an all-foam mattress unique as it’s double-sided, so it can be oriented to feature a firm or soft texture depending on a sleeper’s tastes. I must note that while you might think this flippability would lead to totally striking firmness differences, when my testers tried out the bed in both iterations, they gave the firmer side an average rating of 6.5/10 and the milder side a 5.5/10.

This duality makes the Layla a good option for both sleepers and couples, who will change the feel of the mattress whenever they have to shake up things from the bedroom.

LUXI 3-IN-1

As the name suggests, the Luxi 3-in-1 mattress is a fairly unique product in the sleeping world, as it could be oriented to achieve the feels of three completely different beds. What this essentially means is that the mattress’s four layers can be flipped, switched, and organized to produce either a soft, medium-firm, or firm sleeping experience. This is great for sleepers who aren’t completely sure about the kind of vibe they are after or ones who simply prefer to change things up every once in a while.

NATUREPEDIC

Another customizable choice is this eco-friendly mattress from Naturepedic. This hybrid bed is built with a natural cotton cover, a thick layer of all-natural latex, and a section of individually wrapped coils for pressure relief and support.

An additional bonus of this bed is that it’s flexible and comes in a few different firmness options, including firm, cushion firm, plush, and ultra plush. The layers you will need to create these distinct feels will arrive in four separate boxes, which you will then assemble to your satisfaction. Additionally, if you sleep with a partner and are searching for a mattress with different firmness levels, Naturepedic is more than pleased to create a personalized split layout for you and your bedmate.  Best Mattress For Light Person

BEST HYBRID

When some sleepers have particular feels that they want from their mattresses (e.g., luxurious foam or springy coils), an even larger majority of us prefer a combo platter of sorts when it comes to our beds. We like memory foam but don’t need five inches of the stuff to feel comfortable. We want sinkage, but not too much, and a dollop of contouring, but only if it’s counteracted by the bouncy support of pocketed coils.

If any of this sounds familiar, you might be on the market for a hybrid mattress. These beds ditch the”all-X” structures of different versions in favor of ones that combine materials for a sleeping experience that really does it all.

DREAMCLOUD

The excellent thing about hybrid mattresses is their ability to combine the pressure relief of foam with the aligning support of springs and the DreamCloud does exactly that. The gentle foam on top is wonderful for comfort and the latex layers actually help dissipate body heat to help sleep somewhat cooler.

The DreamCloud’s pocketed coil system gives the mattress a solid feeling like a traditional innerspring mattress. The blend of latex layers and rebound from the coil system cause the sleeper to feel more on top of the mattress, allowing them to change positions without feeling stuck in the layers.

NEST BEDDING ALEXANDER HYBRID

With their ultra-supportive pocketed coil systems, many hybrids are amazing for sleepers who suffer from chronic pain. However, I’d say that my favorite in the group would have to be the Nest Bedding Alexander Hybrid, which unites this support with a super-soft foam-quilted cover for stress relief.

This means that as soon as you lie on the bed, you’re going to experience immediate comfort as you sink through the cover and into the gel-infused memory foam directly below it. The materials are designed to fill in the space at your lumbar area and relieve the formation of pressure points across your body.

BROOKLYN BEDDING SIGNATURE

And last but certainly not least, no hybrid category would be complete without a nod to the Brooklyn Bedding Signature. This hybrid mattress is a revamped version of the brand’s flagship mattress and combines lush foam with pocketed coils for an impressive sleeping experience.

Here, the relief element comes in four inches of the brand’s proprietary TitanFlex foam, a soft substance which also responds quickly to pressure. This bounce is doubled once you add in the mattress’s pocketed coil system, which imbues the mattress with some outstanding lift. The resulting structure allows you to sink in for lovely comfort while at the same time keeping you positioned on top of the mattress, a win-win in my book.

BEST MEMORY FOAM

What would a best mattress manual be without a section devoted to memory foam? Nearly every bed-in-a-box retailer uses the material in some fashion, either quilted to a pay or as the primary comfort layer of one of its mattresses.  Best Mattress For Light Person

As a mattress material, memory foam is best known for its deep contouring and sinkage. At their best, these properties can provide the sleeper with tremendous pressure relief and comfort. However, the foam may also overheat and create too extreme of a”hug” that’ll leave you feeling trapped in the mattress. The key, then, is balance and finding a bed that knows how to perform memory foam right.

NECTAR

Featuring several layers of memory foam (such as an inch quilted into the cover), the Nectar mattress is an perfect match for anyone looking for a mattress that truly embodies the classic material. This translates to is a ton of sinkage and body contouring to get some super satisfying pressure relief.

And while memory foam has a small reputation for overheating, Nectar employs a gel infusion in its foam layers to make certain that things stay cool while you sleep. Add to this a comparatively low motion transfer and you have got yourself a bed that’s as comfy for one as it is for two.

AMERISLEEP

If you are interested in buying a memory foam mattress chiefly because of its pressure-relieving advantages, you may want to consider snagging one of the terrific beds from the Amerisleep suite of mattresses. The line boasts five different models, which vary from AS1 (super firm) all the way to AS5 (pillowy soft).

While the firmness range this is quite extreme, what unifies these mattresses is their exceptional use of memory foam. As employed in the Amerisleep line, the memory foam functions in tandem with the other substances to soothe restlessness, provide fantastic comfort, and dissipate movement disturbance across the structure.

LOOM & LEAF

Another great memory foam option is the Loom & Leaf, which would be my top pick for couples. It comes with a super-soft foam-quilted cover, a gel-infused comfort layer, and a section of memory foam for compression support.

This combo of lush materials allows the bed to genuinely embody all of the best characteristics of the classic material, namely its profound body contouring and sinkage. In the event you and your partner are both fans of memory foam or could simply benefit from the wonderful pressure relief it will provide, you can’t go wrong with this mattress.

BEST LATEX

If memory foam’s not really your thing, maybe you’ll be more in the market for a mattress built with latex. Unlike memory foam, this substance is known for its bounce, coolingsystem, and responsiveness, producing beds that are both comfortable and buoyant.

For my money, the best latex mattresses use the foam to endow the structure with lift and breathability, either as a fun accent involving softer layers or as a major star in its own right. Another great benefit of latex is that it’s relatively simple to produce organically, which makes it a fantastic choice for environmentally conscious sleepers.  Best Mattress For Light Person

ZENHAVEN

If you require something with a great deal of bounce, consider opting to get a firmer latex mattress such as the Zenhaven. This one’s completely built of all-natural Talalay latex, making for a compact bed that is both buoyant and pressure-relieving.

As you’re planning to sink in slightly through the top comfort layer, the latex does a fantastic job of lifting up the sleeper and from the structure, helping to keep the spine in a terrific alignment. Not to mention that this mattress is reversible, featuring both a lavish orientation (average firmness rating of 5.4/10) and a gentle firm one (average firmness rating of 6.75/10), which means that you can always change things up to satisfy your needs.

CEDAR

For those eco-friendly dreamers eager to get their hands on an amazing latex mattress, the Cedar from Brentwood Home could be the ideal bed.

The mattress is constructed with a normal hybrid design of foam comfort layers and a tall part of individually wrapped coils, but what sets it apart are the green materials used throughout. A natural wool cover gives way to a series of all-natural latex layers, which make up the comfortable section of the bed. And below the pocketed coils, you will get a coconut husk foundation, which offers the structure with some equilibrium.

NEST BEDDING HYBRID LATEX

And lastly, there is the Nest Bedding Hybrid Latex, which is my top pick for anybody looking for a latex hybrid.

This mattress is built with layers of organic cotton, all-natural Talalay latex foam, and pocketed coils, stacking up to an impressive 13 inches of comfort. The combination of materials makes a pleasant medium-firm texture (my testers gave it an average firmness rating of 6.4/10) that provides loads of pressure relief without that stuck-in-the-bed feeling. And as with other latex mattresses, this Nest bed sleeps super-cool.

BEST BUDGET

Whether their substances warrant the expense or not, the unfortunate fact is that the majority of beds are really expensive. As you should always consider a mattress buy as an investment in your overall well-being, this doesn’t mean you will need to shell out thousands of dollars to secure a good night’s rest.

In fact, there are a great deal of marvelous beds out there that are not just incredibly comfortable but also cheap enough to leave both you and your wallet grinning from ear to ear. Read on for some best-value mattress picks.

GHOSTBED

My favorite mattress for the price is the GhostBed, which combines latex, gel-infused memory foam, and durable poly foam to get a sleeping experience that’s cool, supportive, and incredibly pressure-relieving. The bed also has great motion transfer and border support, which makes for a well-rounded mattress that is as great for a single sleeper as it is for a pair of bedmates with different sleep preferences. With all these great qualities, this bed must be super-expensive, right? Wrong! A GhostBed queen only costs $795, which can be quite the steal in the internet mattress world.

TUFT & NEEDLE

Tuft & Needle has long been a favorite among bed-in-a-box enthusiasts, as much for its no-fuss foam construction as for its low price point. When compared to other mattresses on the market, its queen size price of only $575 is super-affordable and available to sleepers of all different budgets. When you add in its excellent motion transfer, deep pressure relief, and buoyant, medium-firm feel, this is a mattress that’s truly tough to pass up.

SPINDLE

If you’re looking to snag a great deal on a more luxurious mattress, then look no farther than the Spindle. This bed is crafted with all-natural materials, including wool batting, organic cotton, and three layers of Dunlop latex. What’s unique about the Spindle is that it’s fully adjustable. After completing a quick questionnaire (detailing your weight, age, and sleep preferences), Spindle will send you a customized package of latex layers, which you’ll then assemble at home to their specifications. The result is a bouncy and cool mattress tailor-made to your comfort at a price that can not be beat.

BEST MATTRESSES FOR COUPLES

When thinking about what makes a bed great for couples, I consider a few distinct factors. Namely, I am interested in figuring out how much of the surface area of the mattress you’ll have the ability to use and whether or not you’re going to be disturbed by your partner’s movements in the middle of the night.

That means I’m going to be drawn to beds that feature less motion transfer and excellent edge support. I’ll also be on the lookout for mattresses that exhibit feels that cater to sleepers with unique tastes, since even the most suitable partners can snooze in different ways.

PUFFY

The Puffy mattress, dubbed “the Internet’s most comfortable mattress” was designed and developed with the newest technology and premium excellent foam layers. It’s handmade and 100% manufactured in the USA.

The mattress is excellent for all kinds of sleepers since it poses a moderate level of firmness together with a sleeping surface that seems just like a cloud.

After 4 decades of study, foam formulas, growth, sleep trials, and hundreds of hours of optimizing the memory layers, then the Puffy mattress was created and designed to guarantee a sleep surface that’ll be ideal for a deep, restorative sleep.  Best Mattress For Light Person

The Puffy mattress is just one of the most recent goods in the mattress marketplace and the organization believes they have crafted the best sleep system which will offer a cozy sleep on sleepers of all ages, sizes, and sleeping habits.

NECTAR

Whether you’re just moving in with a new partner or struggling to make ends meet after a big wedding, value can sometimes be the main element for couples to consider when making a big mattress purchase. So before you get intimidated by some of the heftier price tags in this roundup, rest easy: I’ve got you!

Say hello to the Nectar mattress. Built with a thick layer of memory foam, this mattress gives a luxurious vibe for a fraction of the cost of similar mattresses on the market: At $795 for a queen, it’s practically a steal! This combined with the bed’s exceedingly great movement transfer results make it a excellent solution for couples on a budget.

SAPIRA

As I mentioned up top, edge support will be one of the most important things for couples to take into account, as it’ll let them know whether or not they’ll have the ability to use the whole surface of the bed. While there are a lot of mattresses that offer great edge support, I would say my favorite would have to be the Sapira.

This hybrid mattress is produced by Leesa and uses a mixture of Avena and memory foams for pressure relief in addition to a pocketed coil system for support. The interplay of these different materials produces a solid sense of security that’s as powerful at the center as it is at the sides, ensuring that you’ll never feel like you’re going to roll out of bed in the middle of the night.

BEST FOR SIDE SLEEPERS

When buying a new mattress, side sleepers want to be extra-careful about the kind of bed they buy. If it’s too firm, pressure points are likely to form at the shoulders and hips. If it’s too soft, the sinkage could throw the spine out of alignment.

Personally, I find the best mattress type for side sleepers is one that has gentle top layers for cushiony support as well as a solid base to keep these plush materials stabilized. The trick is to find a mattress that pushes back as much as you push in so you never feel totally engulfed by the arrangement.

TOMORROW SLEEP

When side sleepers hear about the inclusion of pocketed coils in a bed, their first thought might be something along the lines of,”This bed will be way too firm for me!” At times, this is correct, but other times, it is not. Take the Tomorrow Sleep, for example, which is designed with coils, yes, but also a ton of pressure-relieving foam.

The mattress comes in two firmness options (soft and firm), both of which contain memory foam and poly foam border support. I would suggest that side sleepers take a look at the soft version, as it comprises three inches of memory foam up top for some pleasant design and relief.

CASPER WAVE

Billed as Casper’s most innovative mattress, the Wave is a fantastic alternative for side sleepers, as its five-foam-layer construction is designed especially with pressure relief in your mind.

This construction includes an interesting mix of bouncy latex, plush memory foam, and durable poly foam, which produces both deep body contouring and a pleasant lift. So while your shoulders and hips are very likely to experience a lot of cushiony support, this sinkage isn’t likely to leave you feeling trapped in the materials.

BEST AT SLEEPING COOL

For a few of you out there, relaxation will be less about stress relief and support and much more about temperature regulation. If you are a sleeper that runs hot, your primary focus is most likely going to be on figuring out how to sleep as cool as possible.

As you start your search, remain on the lookout for beds with individually wrapped coils, as the spaces between the packets encourage airflow throughout the construction. Latex is also perfect for cooling, since the material is excellent at absorbing and dispersing heat. Memory Foam is traditionally not the best at keeping things cool, but often, the substance will be infused with gel to combat this feature.

BROOKLYN BEDDING AURORA

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora is a fantastic mattress for those who must sleep cool. Boasting a hybrid design, the bed is constructed with a super-tall pocketed coil support system (8 inches of individually wrapped coils), which generates dynamic breathability.

The mattress also has a phase change cover, which is actually cool to the touch and helps to absorb the sleeper’s body heat. In addition to these great features, the Aurora also has amazing edge support and motion transfer, which would allow it to be an wonderful alternative for couples looking to keep things cool in the bedroom.

PURPLE

While there are a great deal of items for sleepers to appreciate about a Purple (both its own pressure-relieving service and excellent movement transfer results come to mind), the characteristic that may be most appealing is that it’s technically”temperature neutral.”

So what exactly does this term mean? Fantastic question! Essentially, it means that the mattress’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer (yes, that purple grid) is especially good at dispersing heat because of its open structure. This creates a pleasant balance throughout the mattress and ensures that one’s internal body temperature won’t be a preventative element in getting a good night’s sleep.  Best Mattress For Light Person

GHOSTBED LUXE

Marketed as the”coolest bed in the world,” the GhostBed Luxe was created for folks who sleep hot.

The mattress combats overheating with a phase-change cover, which regulates body temperature, as well as a thick comfort layer of gel memory foam. As we discussed in the intro, gel infusions help to counteract the overheating properties of the substance, allowing sleepers to enjoy all of the foam’s great benefits (sinkage, body contouring, pressure relief) without becoming too hot.

ADDITIONAL BEST MATTRESS CATEGORIES

We’ve got plenty of best mattress picks across Sleepopolis, and below are a few other popular categories, including the best mattress for heavy sleepers (250 lbs and up), best for combo sleepers, and best for stomach sleepers. Make sure to look around our website for a lot more picks based on your preferences, positions, and body type!

BEST FOR HEAVIER SLEEPERS

When looking for a new mattress, it can feel as if there are a lot of complicating factors to consider: materials, design, and price are only a few. While these are all important things to think about, one factor which should never make your mattress look harder is your weight.

If you are a heavier sleeper, this might seem easier said than done, but there are actually a lot of fantastic beds out there built for sleepers of many different sizes, weights, and body types. These mattresses require everything that works well in other models (satisfying pressure relief, great support, cozy materials) and amp them up for a much more optimal sleeping experience.

BIG FIG

My favorite mattress for heavier sleepers is hands down the Big Fig, as it was specifically intended for those who weigh over 300 lbs.

A hybrid construction combines a high section of durable poly foams with bouncy pocketed coils for a firm and supportive feel. This mix of materials is finessed to keep sleepers lying on top of the bed rather than in it, which is important for those who tend to sink directly through softer layers. Plus, every Big Fig includes a specialized base, which adds even more durability and shape to the overall structure.

WINKBEDS PLUS

For heavier couples, there is no better mattress on the market than the WinkBeds Plus. This mattress can also be outfitted with a hybrid design, which brings together bouncy latex with individually wrapped coils to get a sleep that’s as pressure-relieving as it’s supportive.

I should add that the pocketed coil system is zoned, providing the mattress with even more specialized support. As a consequence, that you’ll able to use the whole surface area of the bed and are not going to feel stuck in the arrangement, which can sometimes be a problem for heavier sleepers lounging on beds not designed for their needs.

NEST BEDDING ALEXANDER SIGNATURE

Contrary to popular belief, memory foam is not the enemy of heavier sleepers. While some say the material’s classic design and sinkage properties don’t offer enough support to sleepers of different sizes, I’d argue that when combined with the right stuff, memory foam brings a lot to the party!

A fantastic example of how this works is at the Nest Bedding Alexander Signature. The sleeper immediately meets a thick slab of 4-inch memory foam, which yields incredible body contouring. However, after sinking through this layer, they will encounter a series of firmer foams, which help establish a healthy spine alignment and a great deal of solid support.

BEST FOR COMBO SLEEPERS

Having trouble deciding if you’re a stomach, back, or side sleeper? Do you have a tendency to fall asleep in 1 place and wake up in an entirely different one? Perhaps you’re what I like to refer to as a combo sleeper, or somebody who dozes in numerous positions.

What this means for your mattress search is that you are basically going to be searching for a bed having an abysmal feel, preferably one that strikes a satisfying balance between all its different materials. So if it’s a hybrid, as an instance, you’ll want to make certain the pressure relief of the foam does not cut into the support of the pocketed coils and vice versa.

Below, take a look at some of the beds that I believe strike this balance especially well.

LEESA

For those who spend time slumbering in numerous positions, there really is no better choice than the flagship Leesa mattress. The balanced foam texture combines pressure relief and support for a sleep that is sure to satisfy a wide range of sleepers.

I should note that the mattress is on the firmer side (my testers gave it an average firmness rating of 7/10) and does a great job of lifting the hips up and from the structure. Additionally, the mattress’s top layer of Avena foam imbues the bed with an additional oomph of inviting bounce to fight that stuck-in-the-bed feeling.

NEW PURPLE

Speaking of supportive bounce, among the bounciest beds I’ve tried so far in 2018 is the New Purple. This hybrid revamp of the brand’s flagship model comes in three different firmness levels, all which are designed to satisfy a broad range of sleepers.

In addition to this buoyant lift from the layer of pocketed coils, the mattress also includes a ton of pressure relief thanks to its hyper-elastic polymer comfort grid. This section is great at evenly distributing weight throughout the bed, allowing it to specifically respond to different amounts of pressure from every region of the body. It follows that no matter how you sleep, you are bound to find some fairly incredible comfort.

NECTAR

Designed with a combination of memory foam and high-density poly foam, the Nectar is a super-comfortable mattress that provides awesome pressure relief in numerous positions.

While the nearly four inches of memory foam up top may make stomach and back sleepers run for the hills, the bed actually has a wonderful medium firmness to it, so you will find a solid mixture of sinkage and support. This texture will satisfy a lot of different sleepers, from those who want cushioning at the shoulders all the way to those in need of targeted relief at the lumbar region.

BEST MATTRESSES FOR STOMACH SLEEPERS

If you are a stomach sleeper, you’ll want to discover a firm mattress that’ll position your shoulders and hips in an even line. Sound easy enough? Unfortunately, not necessarily. A lot of beds that bill themselves as being firm forfeit great support in the name of said firmness, leading to mattresses that don’t do much of anything at all.   Best Mattress For Light Person

So the question remains: Are there beds out there that could keep a stomach sleeper’s body level enough for healthy spinal alignment while also being comfortable? The answer is a resounding YES!

For some examples, check out my favorite mattresses for stomach sleepers below.

WINKBEDS

Featuring coil-on-coil structure, the WinkBeds hybrid makes a wonderful mattress alternative for stomach sleepers. The combination of both microcoils and pocketed coils creates an ultra-supportive sleeping experience that keeps the sleeper positioned on top of the mattress.

An added bonus is that the mattress also has a plush pillow top for pressure relief and comes in three different firmness options, so you’ll definitely be able to locate a model that matches your specific sleep needs.

ZENHAVEN

For those stomach sleepers searching for an all-foam mattress, you can not go wrong with the Zenhaven, which contrasts a bounty of buoyant support from its all-latex structure.

While you’ll probably experience a bit of sinkage when you first lie down on the bed, you’ll realize that the layers work together to buoy you in addition to the mattress. This is great for stomach sleepers, who have to keep their shoulders and buttocks from sinking too far into the arrangement, which can throw their spinal alignment way out of whack. I should say that the Zenhaven comes in two firmness options: plush or firm.

Very Best MATTRESS REQUIREMENTS AND SCORING

Finding the best mattress brands for 2018 wasn’t a simple task. There are hundreds of companies in the world, and I personally tested out and reviewed dozens of different versions in my quest to answer the seemingly innocuous question: What is the best mattress?

And even though I’ve landed on what I believe are some really fabulous picks, I would like to acknowledge that this list is always evolving and that my remarks are likely to change as newer beds emerge in the marketplace.

That being said, all mattresses included on this list had to fulfill the following criteria:

TIME FRAME

My selections for the best mattresses to buy in 2018 all had to be accessible 2017 for at least six months prior to this review, with a slight advantage given to those models on the market for a year or more.

Why is this significant? For starters, the longer a business’s been in business, the more confidence I have in its ability to deliver on warranty promises, return policies, and merchandise availability. Second, it tells me that people are responding to its goods, which means the materials are durable as well as the designs are well-executed. And finally, it implies that the organization is going to be around for the long haul, making it a good investment.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

In my opinion, the total customer experience is just as important as an exceptional item. If a brand has an amazing mattress but negligent customer service agents or confusing policies, I can’t in good faith include it on this list.

So how do I make sure that a firm has top-notch customer service? I’m constantly scouring the internet for third-party reviews, looking carefully to see if users are neglected or obtained lackluster service from a specific retailer. I also keep my eyes on social media for any brand red flags, which I then investigate on my own.

Furthermore, I rely on all of you! If I notice that our great Sleepopolis readers are responding in a particularly good or poor approach to a business, I’ll adjust my rankings so, always giving precedence to brands which have a killer track record of positive customer service reviews.

VALUE

As more and more bed-in-a-box businesses surface in the electronic ether, value has become an increasingly important factor for me to consider when selecting the best mattresses of any given calendar year.

When I refer to worth, I am not just talking about a very low price point. A excellent value is achieved when the selling price is well below the average market cost for what you would ordinarily need to pay for a mattress of the quality and functionality. This manner, mattresses at all points on the pricing scale can be considered an exceptional value.

COMPANY INTEGRITY

Last, but certainly not least, let’s talk about business integrity. While different folks will consider integrity in different ways, for me, it comes down to a few crucial questions:

  • How does a company treat its clients, both those that are happy and those with complaints?
  • How transparent is a brand about the types of materials it uses and from where it sources those substances?
  • Has the company received any accolades voted on by users?
  • What, if any, outreach did the company do in 2017? In 2018?
  • What are a few of the brand’s key values? How can this enact these values in its daily operations?

It does not take long to figure out the answers to these questions, and once I do, I use them to inform my positions as much as relaxation or price. In my experience, the best mattress brands are those which not only wish to be the best but truly want to do right by the sleepers who rest in their beds night after night.

If you’re seeking the best mattress, there are a couple of other questions you may want answered also.

WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR IN A MATTRESS?

To find their best mattress, most purchasers will consider cost, firmness, adjustability, and sleep style before buying. You may want to check with your physician first if you experience any kind of pain after sleeping. This can help you pick the best mattress for you.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU NEED A NEW MATTRESS?

How long is a mattress supposed to continue? Regardless of what sort of mattress you buy, most should be replaced every ten years for a great night’s rest and optimum comfort. Even in case you find your dream mattress, you’ll want to consider a replacement in 10 years.  Best Mattress For Light Person

BEST MATTRESSES DETAILED

OUR STAFF PICKS These are a few of our team’s individual favorites. Whether they’re beds some folks sleeping or ones we voted as the very best of their best, these mattresses are true standouts in our publication.

CASPER

With beds to satisfy nearly every demand (from the budget-friendly Essential to the luxurious Wave), Casper mattresses are worth all the hype. While I believe most people could gain from a night’s rest on a Casper, I’d primarily recommend them for everyone who suffers from chronic back or side pain. This can be for several reasons but mostly has to do with the fact that All the brand’s mattresses use hybrid foam construction, which combines different foams together for maximum pressure

DREAMCLOUD

Time to upgrade your mattress and searching through the bed in a box marketplace for your first time? The DreamCloud is a superb alternative for those ones that want the luxurious feel and support of a conventional innerspring mattress together with the ease of installation and value cost of a bed in a box. The DreamCloud includes a tall hybrid architecture with stress relieving memory on top along with also a pocketed coil support coating that provides a firm feel that’s fantastic for back and stomach sleepers. Another piece of the construction I love is the high density polyfoam border support which allows people to sleep close to the side of their bed without collapsing the borders, a great feature for couples who need the entire surface of the mattress.

WINKBEDS

If you are searching for an ultra-supportive bed, you may wish to consider putting your hands on a WinkBeds mattress. Built with two layers of coils, this mattress is fantastic for both combo sleepers and heavier individuals who want a little bit of lift to their own mattress. The mattress also comes in three different firmness options, so you’ll be able to tailor the mattress to your specific sleep tastes. Another wonderful feature? The coil-on-coil structure produces a lot of airflow throughout the structure, ensuring that things will stay nice and cool throughout the evening.

PRESSURE RELIEF Best Mattress For Light Person

If you’re sleeping on a mattress you inherited from your Great Aunt Theresa or one a former roommate left in your flat, odds are you’ve surrendered yourself to the fact that it likely doesn’t satisfy your precise needs. But what? It was free, right? The place where it probably lets you the maximum is pressure relief, or its capacity to soothe pressure in problem areas such as the shoulders, hips, and lower spine. Of all of the changes you will find in a brand new mattress purchase, the biggest is most likely the difference that comes from moving from your old mattress to a which provides ample relaxation and relief. Suggestion: The latter is much, much better for you and your wellbeing. You can find this strain relief in a number of ways, but I’d say the easiest is to choose a mattress that features a durable foundation (of either pocketed coils or high-density poly foam) complimented by thick layers of design foam.

PURPLE

If you are pretty certain that your sleeping difficulties stem from too little pressure relief, I would suggest checking out the Purple mattress. The bed’s unique hyper-elastic polymer grid provides excellent comfort and relief to the lower spine and back as its walls drop to fill in the areas at these regions. While this may not sound any different from the stress relief you’d get out of memory foam or latex, so I’d assert that this grid stands a head above the rest due to how supportive it’s; essentially, you have to sink without feeling stuck in the arrangement. This may spell decent news for a vast collection of sleepers who wish to feel like they’re sleeping on top of their bed as opposed to in it.

LEESA

The Leesa is a standout in this class for me because of how good it’s at providing uniform pressure relief across the body no matter one’s sleeping position. While most all-foam beds are rather good at providing relief to back and side sleepers, the Leesa can also be able to meet stomach sleepers due to its top layer of Avena foam. This substance is soft yet responds quickly to pressure, lifting up the sleeper and positioning them along with the bed. This gives relief to the chest and buttocks, crucial problem areas for those who doze primarily in their stomachs.

GHOSTBED LUXE

If you are after both stress relief and temperature regulation, then I would recommend checking out the GhostBed Luxe. Does this all-foam mattress provide targeted relief to sensitive areas, but it is also outfitted with a lot of really innovative cooling technology. On the strain relief front, the use of memory foam and also the brand’s proprietary Bounce Foam makes a stellar balance of sinkage and support. This means there’s both contouring to alleviate tension at the shoulders and lower back in addition to lots of elevator to maintain the spine in a healthy alignment.

BEST MATTRESSES FOR BACK PAIN

Would you wake up in the morning with a dull, throbbing pain in your pelvic area? Do you toss and turn in the night searching out that bewitching position that might alleviate the distress together your spine? If so, you could only suffer with chronic back pain and may potentially use a mattress update to aid with this back pain. I should note that back pain may result from numerous genetics, genetic, and physical factors, so I like to consider altering your mattress as only one of several measures that could be taken to deal with the issue. If you’re suffering from back pain, it is ideal to check with a physician to come up with a plan which’ll address the underlying causes and symptoms. Remember, nothing on this page should be accepted as medical advice. That having been stated, a general guideline is you will want a supportive mattress (notice that firmness will NOT always equal support) using a soothing foam top layer to fill in the area at your thoracic region. You’ll also want something which keeps your shoulders at a nice alignment with your hips and can be, needless to say, comfy.

LEESA Best Mattress For Light Person

If your biggest woe comes from pressure on your upper back, you’ll need to ensure you snag a mattress that gives as much stress relief from the lumbar area as it does in the shoulders. The important thing here is a gentle yet supportive foam top layer that will offer an even combination of help throughout the entire body. Enter the all-foam Leesa mattress. I like this mattress for back pain problems because of the order of its foam layers, using a part of buoyant Avena foam on top of a single of foam. This positioning may not look like a big deal, but it actually does a lot of fantastic work to relieve tension from the trunk. The sleeper has to sink in for stress relief but can also be buoyed along with the arrangement , never having to sacrifice comfort for assistance.

BEAR

For those athletic sleepers in the bunch that suffer back pain from long days spent in the gym or outside on the field, the Bear mattress might be an ideal mattress for you. Designed with functionality in mind, the Bear is outfitted with graphite-infused memory foam for temperature regulation and comfort in addition to some Celliant-blend cover, which many studies suggest can help with recovery. The mattress also sleeps firm, with my testers providing it an average firmness rating of 7, which you may compare to the market standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness. This is a great level for many back sleepers, as it pertains to solid support throughout the body.

CASPER

A recent trend in mattress design is to add zoned support from the layers of this bed. What this signifies is that one or two parts within a mattress will probably be comprised of not only a single kind of foam (say, memory foam) but a combination of materials of different firmnesses. Essentially, the purpose is to target unique areas of the human body in numerous ways to achieve the ultimate in relaxation. In my view, among the greatest examples of zoned support out there may be observed from the Casper. The all-foam mattress includes a transition layer built with two unique kinds of poly foam: a milder one in the endings of the bed plus a firmer one in the middle. This placement offers pressure relief into the neck and feet while also bringing strong support to the pelvic area, a wonderful combination for anyone coping with back pain.

BEST INNERSPRING

So much as mattresses have been involved, there is perhaps nothing more classic than an old-fashioned innerspring. These vibrant beds reigned supreme long before the arrival of all-foam models, and though they have certainly waned in popularity over the time, there continue to be a variety of solid layouts out there on earth. However, what makes a fantastic innerspring bed? In my opinion, a quality innerspring must sleep cool and possess excellent bounce as well as enough support to prevent you from feeling stuck from the arrangement. Best Mattress For Light Person

WINKBEDS

Though innersprings are often better for back and stomach sleepers, those who doze primarily on their sides might still find a great deal to enjoy in one of these mattresses, provided they incorporate a foam comfort layer for stress relief. 1 such mattress which does this nicely is the WinkBeds mattress. Straightaway, the sleeper will encounter two inches of super-soft gel memory foam, which offers immediate comfort and contouring to the shoulders and hips. Directly under this layer, you will find a coil-on-coil design that evokes the buoyant support of antique innersprings.

SAATVA

If you suffer with back pain, you’ll need a mattress that’s likely to fill in the space on your thoracic region with some targeted pressure relief. There aren’t a lot of innersprings that can do this, but mercifully, the Saatva’s got your back (see what I did there?) . Not only does the coil-on-coil design generate a bouncy mattress that keeps the sleeper in addition to the construction, but also the mattress also supplies a zoned thoracic space specifically designed to alleviate back pain. This greatly lowers the amount of pressure that’s going to form and creates amazing comfort.

BEST ADJUSTABLE FIRMNESS

As you have likely noticed, the vast majority of the info I’ve provided so far is great for sleepers who know just what they need from their bed. But what about in the event that you’re not so sure? Yes, you need pressure relief in your shoulders, but does this mean you have to sacrifice firmness? What about if your sleeping habits change on a dime based on what you do during the day? If one of these thoughts ring true, you may want to invest in a mattress with adjustable firmness. These models comprise layers which might be changed around or modified depending upon your needs in the present time, oscillating between the two firm and soft textures.

LAYLA

The Layla is an all-foam mattress special since it’s double-sided, so it can be oriented to incorporate a firm or soft feel based on a sleeper’s tastes. I have to note that while you may think that this flippability would lead to totally striking firmness gaps, when my sailors tried out the bed in both iterations, they gave the firmer side a typical score of 6.5/10 and the softer side a 5.5/10. This duality creates the Layla a good option for both sleepers and couples, who will change the sense of the mattress whenever they should shake up things from the bedroom.

LUXI 3-IN-1

As the name implies , the Luxi 3-in-1 mattress is a fairly unique product in the sleeping world, as it can be oriented to achieve the feels of three entirely different beds. What this basically means is that the mattress’s four layers could be flipped, switched, and organized to make a soft, medium-firm, or firm sleeping encounter. This is great for sleepers that are not completely sure about what sort of vibe they’re following or those who just like to change things up every once in a while.

NATUREPEDIC

Another customizable choice is this eco-friendly mattress from Naturepedic.

This hybrid bed is built with an organic cotton cover, a thick coating of all-natural latex, and a section of individually wrapped coils for pressure relief and support. An additional bonus of the bed is the fact that it is flexible and comes in a few different firmness options, such as firm, cushion firm, plush, and ultra plush. The layers you want to make these different feels will arrive in four separate boxes, which you will then assemble to your satisfaction. Furthermore, if you sleep with a spouse and are looking for a mattress with different firmness levels, Naturepedic is more than pleased to create a personalized split layout for you and your bedmate.

BEST HYBRID

While some sleepers have particular feels they want from their mattresses (e.g., luxurious foam or elastic coils), a far larger majority of us favor a combo platter of sorts when it comes to our beds. We like memory foam but don’t need five inches of their stuff to feel comfortable. We are in need of sinkage, but not too much, and a dollop of contouring, but only as long as it’s counteracted by the springy support of pocketed coils. If some of this sounds familiar, you might be on the market for a hybrid mattress. These beds ditch the”all-X” structures of different models in favor of ones which combine materials for a sleeping experience that really does everything.

DREAMCLOUD

The great thing about hybrid mattresses is their capacity to unite the pressure relief of foam together with the full support support of springs and the DreamCloud does just that. The gentle foam on the top is great for relaxation and the latex layers actually help dissipate body heat to assist sleep a bit cooler. The DreamCloud’s pocketed coil system gives the mattress a good feeling akin to a conventional innerspring mattress. The blend of latex layers and rebound from the coil system cause the sleeper to feel more on top of this mattress, allowing them to change positions without feeling stuck in the layers.

NEST BEDDING ALEXANDER HYBRID

With their ultra-supportive pocketed coil systems, many hybrids are amazing for sleepers who are afflicted with chronic pain. However, I would say my favorite in the group would need to function as Nest Bedding Alexander Hybrid, which combines this support using a super-soft foam-quilted cover for stress relief. This means that as soon as you lie on the mattress, you are very likely to experience immediate comfort as you sink through the cover and also in the gel-infused memory foam right below it. The materials are intended to fill in the area in your thoracic region and alleviate the formation of pressure points throughout the human body.

BROOKLYN BEDDING SIGNATURE

And last but definitely not least, no hybrid type could be complete without a nod to the Brooklyn Bedding Signature. This hybrid is a revamped version of this brand’s flagship mattress and unites lush foam using pocketed coils to get an impressive sleeping encounter. Here, the relief element comes from four inches of this brand’s proprietary TitanFlex foam, a soft material which also responds quickly to pressure. This dip is doubled as soon as you add in the bed’s pocketed coil system, which imbues the mattress with some outstanding lift. The subsequent arrangement allows you to sink for amazing comfort while at precisely the same time maintaining you positioned along with this mattress, a win-win in my book. Best Mattress For Light Person

BEST MEMORY FOAM

What would a best mattress manual be without a segment devoted to memory foam? Nearly every bed-in-a-box retailer employs the material in some manner, either quilted to a cover or as the primary relaxation layer of among its mattresses.

As a mattress material, memory foam is famous for its deep design and sinkage. At their best, these properties can provide the sleeper with tremendous pressure relief and comfort. On the other hand, the foam may also overheat and produce too extreme of a”hug” that’ll leave you feeling trapped in the mattress. The key, then, is equilibrium and locating a mattress that knows how to perform memory foam right.

NECTAR

Featuring several layers of memory foam (such as a inch quilted into the cover), the Nectar mattress is an ideal match for anyone looking for a mattress which truly embodies the classic material. What this translates to is a great deal of sinkage and body contouring to get some super satisfying pressure relief. And while memory foam has a small reputation for overheating, Nectar uses a gel infusion in its foam layers to create certain that things remain cool while you sleep. Add to this a relatively low motion transfer and you’ve got yourself a bed that is as comfortable for one as it’s for two.

AMERISLEEP

If you’re thinking about purchasing a memory foam mattress mainly for its pressure-relieving advantages, you may want to consider snagging among those terrific beds at the Amerisleep package of mattresses. The line boasts five distinct models, which range from AS1 (super firm) all of the way to AS5 (pillowy soft). Even though the firmness range this is quite extreme, what unifies these mattresses is their unique use of memory foam. As employed in the Amerisleep lineup, the memory foam functions in tandem with the other materials to soothe restlessness, provide exceptional comfort, and dissipate movement disturbance across the structure.

LOOM & LEAF

Another great memory foam option is your Loom & Leaf, that would be my best pick for couples. It features a super-soft foam-quilted cover, a gel-infused comfort layer, and a part of memory foam for compression support. This combo of lush materials allows the mattress to genuinely embody all of the best features of the classic material, namely its deep body contouring and sinkage. In the event that you and your partner are both lovers of memory foam or could simply benefit from the wonderful pressure relief it’ll supply, you can not go wrong with this mattress.

BEST LATEX

If memory foam’s not really something, perhaps you’ll be in the market for a mattress constructed with latex. Unlike memory foam, this substance is famed for its bounce, cooling, and responsiveness, producing beds which are both comfortable and buoyant. For my money, the best latex mattresses use the foam to endow the structure with elevator and breathability, either as a fun accent involving softer layers or as a significant celebrity in its own right. Another superb advantage of latex is that it’s relatively easy to produce organically, which makes it a fantastic option for environmentally conscious sleepers.

ZENHAVEN

If you require something with a great deal of rebound, then consider moving to acquire a firmer latex mattress such as the Zenhaven. This one’s completely built of all-natural Talalay latex, making for a dense bed that’s both buoyant and pressure-relieving. While you’re very likely to sink slightly through the top comfort layer, the latex does an wonderful job of lifting the sleeper up and from the construction, helping to maintain the backbone in a great alignment. And of course that this mattress is reversible, featuring both a lavish orientation (average firmness score of 5.4/10) plus a gentle firm one (average firmness rating of 6.75/10), meaning you may always change things up to suit your needs.

CEDAR

For those ecofriendly dreamers eager to get their hands on an amazing latex mattress, the Cedar from Brentwood Home could be the ideal mattress. The mattress is built with a typical hybrid layout of foam comfort layers and a tall portion of individually wrapped coils, but what sets it apart are the green substances used throughout. An organic wool cover gives way to a series of pure latex layers, which include the comfort part of this mattress. And below the pocketed coils, then you will come across a coconut husk base, which offers the structure with a few equilibrium.

NEST BEDDING HYBRID LATEX

And finally, there’s the Nest Bedding Hybrid Latex, which is my very best pick for anybody searching for a latex hybrid. This mattress is built with layers of organic cotton, organic Talalay latex foam, and pocketed coils, stacking up to an impressive 13 inches of relaxation. The combination of materials creates a nice medium-firm texture (my testers gave it an ordinary firmness rating of 6.4/10) that provides plenty of pressure relief with no stuck-in-the-bed feeling. And as with other latex mattresses, this Nest bed sleeps super-cool.

BEST BUDGET

Whether their materials warrant the cost or not, the unfortunate fact is that nearly all beds are really expensive. As you must always think of a mattress buy as an investment in your overall well-being, this doesn’t indicate which you will need to shell out tens of thousands of bucks to secure a fantastic night’s rest. In reality, there are a great deal of marvelous beds out there which aren’t just amazingly comfortable but also affordable enough to leave both you and your wallet grinning from ear to ear. Keep on reading for a few best-value mattress picks.

GHOSTBED

My favorite mattress for the money is your GhostBed, which combines latex, gel-infused memory foam, and durable poly foam to get a sleeping experience that’s cool, supportive, and incredibly pressure-relieving. The bed also has excellent motion transfer and edge support, which makes to get a yearlong mattress that is as good for one sleeper since it’s to get a set of bedmates with different sleep preferences. With all of these excellent attributes, this bed has to be super-expensive, right? Wrong! A GhostBed queen only costs $795, which is quite the steal in the internet mattress globe.

TUFT & NEEDLE

Tuft & Needle has long been a favorite among bed-in-a-box enthusiasts, just as much for its no-fuss foam construction due to its low cost point. Compared to other mattresses on the current market, its queen size cost of only $575 is super-affordable and accessible to sleepers of all different budgets. When you put in in its own exceptional motion transfer, deep stress relief, and buoyant, medium-firm feel, this really is a mattress that’s truly hard to pass up. Best Mattress For Light Person

SPINDLE

If you’re wanting to snag a excellent deal to a more luxurious mattress, then look no farther than the Spindle. This bed consists of organic materials, such as wool batting, natural cotton, and three layers of Dunlop latex. What is unique about the Spindle is that it is fully adjustable. After completing a quick questionnaire (outlining your weight, age, and also sleep tastes ), Spindle will send you a customized bundle of latex layers, which you will then assemble at home to your specifications. The end result is a bouncy and fashionable mattress tailor-made for your own comfort at a cost that can not be overcome.

BEST MATTRESSES FOR COUPLES

When considering what makes a bed great for couples, I believe a couple of different facets. Namely, I am interested in figuring out how much of this surface region of the mattress you’ll be able to use and whether or not you’re likely to be bothered by your spouse’s moves in the middle of night. Meaning I’m going to be attracted to beds which feature less movement transfer and quality edge support. I’ll also be on the watch for mattresses which display feels that cater to sleepers with different tastes, since even the most suitable mates can snooze in various ways.

PUFFY

The Puffy mattress, dubbed”the Internet’s most comfortable mattress” was designed and developed with the most recent technology and superior exceptional foam layers. It is handmade and 100% manufactured in the united states. The mattress is excellent for all sorts of sleepers as it poses a moderate amount of firmness together using a sleeping surface that seems exactly like a cloud. After 4 decades of research, memory formulas, growth, sleep trials, and hundreds of hours of optimizing the memory layers, then the Puffy mattress was created and designed to guarantee a sleeping surface that’ll be well suited for a deep, restorative sleep.

The Puffy mattress is just one of the most recent products from the mattress market and the organization believes they’ve crafted the best sleep system that will provide a comfy sleep on sleepers of all ages, sizes, and sleeping habits.

NECTAR

Whether you are simply moving in with a new spouse or fighting to make ends meet after a big wedding, value can at times be the primary element for couples to consider when creating a major mattress buy. Before getting intimidated by a few of the heavier price tags in this roundup, rest easy: I have you! Say hello to the Nectar mattress. Constructed with a thick layer of memory foam, this mattress gives a luxurious vibe for a fraction of the price of similar mattresses on the market: At $795 for a queen, it is almost a steal! This combined with all the mattress’s extremely fantastic motion transfer outcomes make it a superb alternative for couples on a budget.

SAPIRA

As I mentioned up top, border support will probably be one of the main things for couples to take into consideration, since it will tell them if they’ll have the ability to use the whole surface of the mattress. When there are a great deal of mattresses that offer great advantage support, I would say my favorite would have to be that the Sapira. This hybrid is created by Leesa and uses a mixture of Avena and memory foams for stress relief in addition to a pocketed coil method for support. The interplay of these various materials produces a good sense of security that’s as successful at the centre since it’s in the sides, ensuring that you’ll never feel as though you’re going to roll out of bed in the middle of the night.

BEST FOR SIDE SLEEPERS

While purchasing a new mattress, side sleepers are interested in being extra-careful concerning the type of bed they purchase. When it’s too firm, pressure points will form in the shoulders and buttocks. If it’s too soft, the sinkage could throw the spine out of alignment. As for me, I find the very best mattress kind for side sleepers is one which has gentle top layers for cushiony support as well as a good base to maintain these plush materials stabilized. The trick is to get a mattress that pushes back up to you push so that you don’t ever feel completely engulfed by the arrangement.

TOMORROW SLEEP

When side sleepers hear concerning the addition of pocketed coils at a bed, their initial thought might be something along the lines of,”This mattress will be far too firm for me!” At times, this is right, but other times, it is not. Pick out the Tomorrow Sleep, by way of instance, which can be designed using coils, yes, but also a lot of pressure-relieving foam. The bed comes in two firmness choices (soft and firm), each of which contain memory foam and poly foam border support. I’d indicate that side sleepers check out the soft version, since it comprises three inches of memory foam up top for a few pleasant design and relief.

CASPER WAVE

Billed as Casper’s most advanced mattress, the Wave is a fantastic option for side sleepers, as its five-foam-layer construction is made especially with pressure relief in your mind. This construction contains an interesting mix of bouncy latex, plush memory foam, and durable poly foam, which produces both heavy body contouring and a pleasant lift. So while your shoulders and hips are very likely to undergo a fantastic deal of cushiony support, this sinkage isn’t going to leave you feeling trapped in the materials.

BEST AT SLEEPING COOL

For some of you out there, relaxation will be about stress relief and support and also much more about temperature regulation. If you are a sleeper that runs hot, your primary focus is most likely going to be on figuring out how to sleep as trendy as you can. As you start your search, remain on the lookout for beds with individually wrapped coils, as the spaces between the packets promote airflow throughout the construction. Latex is also perfect for cooling, since the material is great at absorbing and dispersing heat. Memory Foam is traditionally not the best at keeping items cool, but frequently, the substance will be infused with gel to resist this attribute. Best Mattress For Light Person

BROOKLYN BEDDING AURORA

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora is a wonderful mattress for those that must sleep trendy. Boasting a hybrid design, the mattress is built with a super-tall pocketed coil support system (8 inches of individually wrapped coils), which creates dynamic breathability. The mattress also includes a phase change cover, which is actually cool to the touch and helps to absorb the sleeper’s body heat. In addition to these fantastic features, the Aurora also has excellent edge support and movement transfer, which could allow it to be an wonderful alternative for couples trying to keep things cool in the bedroom.

PURPLE

When there are a lot of items for sleepers to appreciate about a Purple (both its pressure-relieving support and superb movement transfer results come to mind), the attribute that may be most attractive is that it is technically”temperatures neutral.” So what exactly does this term mean? Great question! Basically it means that the mattress’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer (yes, that purple grid) is especially good at distributing heat due to its open structure. This creates a pleasant equilibrium throughout the mattress and ensures that one’s internal body temperature won’t be a preventative element in getting a fantastic night’s sleep.

GHOSTBED LUXE

Marketed as the”hottest mattress on the planet,” that the GhostBed Luxe was created for men and women that sleep hot. The mattress combats chills using a phase-change cover, which regulates body temperature, in addition to a thick comfort layer of gel memory foam. As we discussed in the intro, gel infusions help to counteract the overheating properties of the material, allowing sleepers to enjoy all the foam’s great benefits (sinkage, body contouring( pressure relief) without becoming too hot.

ADDITIONAL BEST MATTRESS CATEGORIES

We have loads of mattress options across Sleepopolis, and below are a couple of other popular types, such as the best mattress for heavy sleepers (250 lbs and up), best for combo sleepers, and also best for stomach sleepers. Be sure to check around our site for a good deal more picks based on your own preferences, positions, and body!

BEST FOR HEAVIER SLEEPERS

When browsing for a new bed, it can feel like there are a whole lot of complicating factors to consider: Materials, design, and price are just a few. While all of these are important things to consider, one variable that ought to never make your mattress look harder is the weight.

If you’re a heavier sleeper, this might seem easier said than done, but there are actually a lot of fantastic beds out there built for sleepers of many different sizes, weights, and body types. These mattresses require everything which works well in various models (satisfying pressure relief, terrific support, cozy materials) and amp them up for a much more optimal sleeping experience.

BIG FIG

My preferred mattress for thicker sleepers is hands down the Big Fig, as it was specifically created for individuals who weigh more than 300 pounds. A hybrid construction combines a high portion of lasting poly foams with bouncy pocketed coils to get a firm and supportive feel. This blend of substances is finessed to maintain sleepers lying on top of the mattress instead of inside, which is significant for those who often sink straight through thinner layers. Additionally, every huge Fig comprises a specialized base, which adds even more durability and shape to the general structure.

WINKBEDS PLUS

For thicker couples, there’s no better bed on the market compared to WinkBeds Plus. This mattress can also be outfitted with a hybrid design, which brings together bouncy latex using individually wrapped coils to find a sleep that is as pressure-relieving as it is supportive. I need to add the pocketed coil system is zoned, giving the mattress with even more technical support. This means that you’ll able to use the whole surface area of the bed and are not likely to feel stuck at the arrangement, which could occasionally be an issue for heavier sleepers lounging on beds not meant for their needs.

NEST BEDDING ALEXANDER SIGNATURE

In contrast to popular belief, memory foam isn’t the enemy of heavier sleepers. Though some say the material’s classic design and sinkage properties do not provide enough support to sleepers of various dimensions, I would argue that when combined with the right stuff, memory foam brings a great deal to the celebration! A fantastic example of the way this works is at the Nest Bedding Alexander Signature. The sleeper instantly fulfills a thick slab of 4-inch memory foam, which yields body contouring. But after sinking through this coating, they’ll encounter a series of firmer foams, which help establish a healthy spine alignment and a great deal of sound support.

BEST FOR COMBO SLEEPERS

Having trouble deciding if you’re a tummy, back, or side sleeper? Do you typically fall asleep in one position and awaken in a totally different one? Maybe you’re exactly what I like to refer to as a combo sleeper, or someone who dozes in numerous positions. What this means for your mattress hunt is that you are basically going to be searching for a bed having an abysmal feel, rather one which strikes a satisfying balance between all its distinct substances. So if it is a hybridvehicle, for example, you will need to make certain the pressure aid of the foam does not cut in the support of the pocketed coils and vice versa. Below, check out a few of the beds that I believe strike this balance especially well.

LEESA

For people who spend some time slumbering in multiple places, there is no better choice than the flagship Leesa mattress. The balanced foam texture combines pressure relief and support to get a sleep that is guaranteed to satisfy a vast selection of sleepers. I should say that the mattress is about the firmer side (my testers gave it an ordinary firmness rating of 7/10) and does a great job of lifting the hips upward and out of the structure. Plus, the mattress’s top layer of Avena foam imbues the mattress using another oomph of supportive bounce to fight that stuck-in-the-bed feeling.

NEW PURPLE

Speaking of inviting bounce, among the bounciest beds I’ve tried up to now in 2019 is the New Purple. This hybrid revamp of the new flagship model comes in three different firmness levels, all that are designed to match a broad range of sleepers. In addition to this buoyant lift from the layer of pocketed coils, the mattress also offers a lot of pressure relief thanks to its hyper-elastic polymer relaxation grid. This section is excellent at evenly distributing weight across the mattress, allowing it especially respond to different amounts of pressure from each region of the human body. It follows that no matter how you sleep, you are bound to come across some fairly incredible comfort. Best Mattress For Light Person

NECTAR

Designed with a combination of memory foam and high-density poly foam, the Nectar is a super-comfortable mattress that provides awesome pressure relief from multiple positions. While the almost four inches of memory foam up high may make back and stomach sleepers run for the hills, the mattress really has a wonderful medium firmness for this, which means you’ll discover a solid mixture of sinkage and support. This feel will suit a lot of different sleepers, from individuals who want cushioning at the shoulders all of the way to people needing targeted aid in the lumbar region.

BEST MATTRESSES FOR STOMACH SLEEPERS

If you are a stomach sleeper, then you are going to want to discover a firm mattress that will position your buttocks and shoulders in an even line. Sound easy enough? Unfortunately, not necessarily. A great deal of beds that charge themselves as being firm sacrifice good support from the title of said firmness, resulting in mattresses that don’t do much of anything at all.

So the question remains: Are there beds out there that can maintain a tummy sleeper’s body flat enough for healthy spinal column while also being comfortable? The solution is a resounding YES! For some examples, check out my favourite mattresses for tummy sleepers below.

WINKBEDS

Featuring coil-on-coil structure, the WinkBeds hybrid produces an excellent mattress option for stomach sleepers. The combination of the microcoils and pocketed coils creates an ultra-supportive sleeping experience that retains the sleeper positioned on top of the mattress. An extra bonus is that the mattress also contains a lavish pillow top for stress relief also comes in three different firmness options, so you’ll definitely have the ability to locate a model that fits with your particular sleep needs.

ZENHAVEN

For all those stomach sleepers in search of an all-foam mattress, then you can’t really go wrong with all the Zenhaven, which contrasts a bounty of buoyant support from its all-latex construction. As you’ll probably experience a little bit of sinkage after you first lie down on the mattress, then you might realize that the layers work together to suit you in addition to the mattress. This is very good for stomach sleepers, who need to maintain their shoulders and hips from sinking too far into the arrangement, which can throw their spinal column way out of whack. I must notice that the Zenhaven comes in just two firmness options: plush or firm.

BEST MATTRESS REQUIREMENTS AND SCORING

Locating the best mattress makers for 2019 was not a simple endeavor. There are dozens and dozens of businesses on the planet, and I tested out and analyzed dozens of different models in my quest to answer the seemingly innocuous question: what is the best mattress? And even though I have landed what I think are some really fantastic selections, I would like to acknowledge that this list is constantly evolving and that my remarks are likely to change as newer beds emerge in the market. That being said, all mattresses contained on this list had to fulfill the following standards:

TIME FRAME

My selections to find the top mattresses to buy at 2019 all needed to be available in 2017 for at least six weeks before this review, with a slight advantage given to those models on the market for a year or two longer. Why is this significant? For one thing, the more a company’s been in business, the more confidence I have in its ability to deliver on assurance promises, return policies, and product availability. Second, it tells me that folks are reacting to its products, which means the substances are durable and the designs are well-executed. And finally, it implies that the firm will be around for the long haul, and which makes it a good investment.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

In my view, the total customer experience is just as important as an exceptional product. When a brand has an remarkable bed but negligent customer support representatives or perplexing policies, I can’t in good faith include it with this list. So how can I make sure that a firm has top-notch customer support? I’m constantly scouring the internet for third party reviews, looking carefully to determine if users are neglected or obtained lackluster service from a specific retailer. I also keep my eyes on social media for any brand red flags, which I investigate in my. Furthermore, I rely on you all! If I detect that our great Sleepopolis readers are reacting in a particularly good or poor approach to a business, I’ll correct my rankings accordingly, always giving precedence to brands that have a killer track record of positive customer service testimonials.

VALUE

As increasingly more bed-in-a-box businesses surface in the electronic ether, value has become an increasingly important component for me to look at when picking the top mattresses of any year. When I refer to worth, I’m not just talking about a low price point. A excellent value is achieved while the selling price is well below the normal market cost for what you’d ordinarily will need to pay a mattress of the quality and functionality. In this manner, mattresses in all points on the pricing scale could be considered an exceptional value.

COMPANY INTEGRITY

Last, but definitely not least, let’s talk about business integrity. While different folks will consider integrity in different ways, for me, it comes down to a few crucial questions:

  • How can a company treat its clients, both those who are joyful and those that have complaints?
  • How transparent is a new in regards to the sorts of materials it uses and out of where it resources those materials?
  • Has the firm received any accolades voted on by users?
  • What, if any, outreach did the business do in 2017? In 2019?
  • What are a few of the brand’s key values? How do it enact these values in its own daily surgeries?

It doesn’t take long to figure out the answers to those questions, and once I do, I use them to notify my rankings as much as comfort or cost. In my experience, the best mattress makers are those that not only wish to be the very best but truly wish to do by the sleepers who rest in their beds night after night. If you are seeking the best mattress, there are a couple other questions that you may want answered also.

WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR IN A MATTRESS?

To find their very best mattress, many purchasers will consider cost, firmness, adjustability, and sleep style before buying. You might want to consult your doctor first if you notice any sort of pain after sleeping. This will allow you to decide on the ideal mattress for you.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU Will Need A NEW MATTRESS?

How long can be a mattress supposed to last? Whatever kind of mattress you purchase, most should be replaced every ten years to get a great night’s rest and optimum comfort. Even in the event you discover your dream mattress, then you will want to consider a replacement in 10 decades. Best Mattress For Light Person

BEST MATTRESSES DETAILED

OUR STAFF PICKS

These are a few of the our team’s personal favorites. Whether they’re beds some people sleep on or ones we voted as the very best of the best, these mattresses are true standouts in our book.

CASPER

With beds to satisfy nearly every need (in the budget-friendly Essential into the luxurious Wave), Casper mattresses are worth all of the hype.

While I think most people could benefit from a night’s rest on a Casper, I would primarily recommend them for anyone who suffers from chronic back or side pain. This is for a few reasons but mostly has to do with the fact that All the brand’s mattresses use hybrid foam construction, which unites different foams together for maximum pressure

DREAMCLOUD

Time to upgrade your mattress and looking through the bed in a box market for the first time? The DreamCloud is a excellent option for those that want the luxury feel and support of a conventional innerspring mattress with the simplicity of installation and value cost of a bed in a box.

The DreamCloud has a tall hybrid construction with pressure relieving foam on top and a pocketed coil support layer that offers a firm feel that’s excellent for back and stomach sleepers. Another piece of this construction that I love is that the high density polyfoam border support which allows people to sleep close to the side of the bed without collapsing the edges, a great feature for couples that need the whole surface of the bed.

WINKBEDS

If you’re looking for an ultra-supportive bed, you may want to think about getting your hands on a WinkBeds mattress. Constructed with foam and two layers of coils, this bed is great for both combo sleepers and heavier people who want a little bit of lift to their mattress.

The bed also comes in three different firmness options, so you’ll have the ability to tailor the mattress to your specific sleep preferences. Another fantastic feature? The coil-on-coil structure produces a ton of airflow throughout the structure, ensuring that things will stay nice and cool throughout the night.

PRESSURE RELIEF

If you are sleeping on a mattress you inherited from your Great Aunt Theresa or one a former roommate left behind in your apartment, odds are you’ve surrendered yourself to the fact that it likely doesn’t satisfy your precise needs. But so what? It was free, right?

The area in which it probably lets you down the most is pressure relief, or its ability to soothe tension at problem areas like the shoulders, hips, and lower back. Of all of the changes you’ll see in a new mattress buy, the biggest is most likely the difference that comes from going from the old mattress to one which provides ample comfort and relief. Hint: The latter is much, much better for you and your wellbeing.

You can get this pressure relief in a number of ways, but I would say the easiest would be to go with a mattress that features a durable foundation (of either pocketed coils or high-density poly foam) complimented by thick layers of contouring foam.  Best Mattress For Light Person

PURPLE

If you are fairly certain that your sleeping problems stem from a lack of pressure relief, I’d suggest checking out the Purple mattress. The bed’s unique hyper-elastic polymer grid offers excellent comfort and relief to the lower back and shoulders because its walls fall to fill in the spaces in these regions.

While this may not seem any different from the pressure relief you would get from memory foam or latex, I would argue that this grid stands a head above the rest because of how inviting it is; essentially, you get to sink without feeling stuck in the structure. This may spell good news for a wide variety of sleepers who wish to feel as if they’re sleeping on top of their bed instead of in it.

LEESA

The Leesa is a standout in this class for me because of how great it’s at providing uniform pressure relief across the body no matter one’s sleeping posture.

While most all-foam beds are fairly good at supplying relief to side and back sleepers, the Leesa is also able to satisfy stomach sleepers because of its top layer of Avena foam. This material is soft yet reacts quickly to pressure, lifting up the sleeper and positioning them on top of the bed. This gives relief to the torso and buttocks, crucial problem areas for those who doze primarily on their stomachs.

GHOSTBED LUXE

If you’re following both pressure relief and temperature regulation, then I’d recommend checking out the GhostBed Luxe. Not only does this all-foam mattress provide targeted relief to sensitive areas, but it’s also outfitted with a lot of really innovative cooling tech.

On the pressure relief front, the use of memory foam and the brand’s proprietary Bounce Foam creates a stellar equilibrium of sinkage and support. This means there is both contouring to alleviate tension at the shoulders and lower back as well as plenty of lift to keep the spine in a healthy alignment.

BEST MATTRESSES FOR BACK PAIN

Do you ever wake up in the morning with a dull, throbbing pain in your pelvic region? Do you toss and turn in the night seeking out that magical position which may alleviate the distress along your spine? If so, you could just suffer from chronic back pain and could perhaps use a mattress update to help with that back pain.

I should note that back pain can result from numerous lifestyle, genetic, and physical factors, so I like to think of changing your mattress as just one of several measures that could be taken to address the issue. If you are suffering from back pain, it is best to consult with a medical professional to develop a plan that’ll address the underlying causes and symptoms. Remember, nothing on this page should be taken as medical advice.

That having been said, a general rule of thumb is that you’ll want a supportive bed (notice that firmness does NOT always equal support) with a soothing foam top layer to fill in the area at your lumbar area. You will also want something which keeps your shoulders in a wonderful alignment with your hips and is, of course, comfortable.  Best Mattress For Light Person

LEESA

If your main woe comes from stress in your upper back, you will want to make sure you snag a bed that provides as much pressure relief from the lumbar region as it does from the shoulders. The important thing here is a soft yet supportive foam top layer that’ll offer an even combination of support across the body. Enter the all-foam Leesa mattress.

I like this bed for back pain problems because of the order of its foam layers, using a section of buoyant Avena foam on top of one of memory foam. This placement may not seem like a huge deal, but it really does a lot of great work to relieve tension in the back. The sleeper gets to sink in for pressure relief but can also be buoyed in addition to the arrangement , never having to sacrifice comfort for support.

BEAR

For those athletic sleepers from the bunch who suffer back pain from long days spent at the gym or outside on the field, the Bear mattress might be an ideal bed for you. Designed with performance in mind, the Bear is outfitted with graphite-infused memory foam for temperature regulation and comfort as well as a Celliant-blend cover, which some studies suggest can assist with recovery.

The bed also sleeps firm, with my testers giving it an average firmness score of 7, which you may compare to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness. This is a terrific level for most back sleepers, as it translates to solid support across the body.

CASPER

A current trend in mattress design is to include zoned support from the layers of the mattress. What this means is that one or two sections within a mattress will be comprised of not just a single type of foam (say, memory foam) but a combination of substances of different firmnesses. Essentially, the purpose is to target different parts of the body in different ways to achieve the ultimate in comfort.

In my opinion, among those best examples of zoned support out there may be found in the Casper. The all-foam bed involves a transition layer built with two unique types of poly foam: a softer one in the ends of the bed and a firmer one in the center. This placement offers pressure relief to the neck and feet while also bringing solid support to the lumbar region, a fantastic combination for anyone coping with back pain.

BEST INNERSPRING

So far as mattresses are involved, there’s perhaps nothing more classic than an old-fashioned innerspring. These vibrant beds reigned supreme long before the arrival of all-foam models, and though they’ve definitely waned in popularity through time, there are still a number of solid layouts available in the world.

But what makes a great innerspring bed? In my opinion, an excellent innerspring must sleep cool and have excellent bounce as well as enough support to prevent you from ever feeling stuck in the arrangement.

WINKBEDS

Though innersprings are usually better for back and stomach sleepers, those who snore primarily on their sides may still find a lot to enjoy in one of those mattresses, as long as they feature a foam comfort layer for stress relief.

One such mattress which does this well is your WinkBeds mattress. Straightaway, the sleeper will encounter two inches of super-soft gel memory foam, which provides immediate comfort and contouring to the shoulders and hips. Directly below this layer, you will find a coil-on-coil design that evokes the buoyant support of traditional innersprings.  Best Mattress For Light Person

SAATVA

If you suffer from back pain, you’ll want a mattress that’s going to fill in the space at your lumbar region with some targeted pressure relief. There aren’t a lot of innersprings that can do this, but thankfully, the Saatva’s got your back (see what I did there?) .

Not only does the coil-on-coil design create a bouncy mattress that keeps the sleeper on top of the construction, but the bed also offers a zoned lumbar area specifically designed to alleviate back pain. This greatly reduces the amount of pressure that’s likely to form and creates amazing comfort.

BEST ADJUSTABLE FIRMNESS

As you’ve likely noticed, the majority of the info I’ve provided thus far is great for sleepers who know just what they want from their bed. But what about in case you’re not so sure? Yes, you want pressure relief in your shoulders, but does this mean you have to sacrifice firmness? What about if your sleep habits change on a dime depending on what you do during the day?

If any of these ideas ring true, you might want to invest in a bed with adjustable firmness. These models include layers that can be switched around or modified based upon your needs in the present time, oscillating between the two firm and soft feels.

LAYLA

The Layla is an all-foam mattress unique in that it’s double-sided, so it can be oriented to feature a firm or soft texture based on a sleeper’s tastes. I should note that while you may think this flippability would result in totally striking firmness differences, when my testers tried out the bed in both iterations, they gave the firmer side an average score of 6.5/10 and the softer side a 5.5/10.

This duality makes the Layla a solid option for both sleepers and couples, who will change the sense of the mattress whenever they need to shake up things in the bedroom.

LUXI 3-IN-1

As the name implies, the Luxi 3-in-1 mattress is a fairly distinctive product in the sleeping sphere, as it could be oriented to achieve the feels of three totally different beds. What this basically means is that the mattress’s four layers can be flipped, switched, and organized to make either a soft, medium-firm, or firm sleeping experience. This is great for sleepers that aren’t completely sure about the sort of vibe they are after or ones who just like to change things up every once in a while.

NATUREPEDIC

Another customizable option is this eco-friendly mattress from Naturepedic. This hybrid bed is constructed with a natural cotton cover, a thick layer of all-natural latex, and a part of individually wrapped coils for pressure relief and support.

An additional bonus of the bed is that it’s adjustable and comes in a couple of different firmness options, including firm, cushion firm, plush, and ultra plush. The layers you need to create these distinct feels will arrive in four different boxes, which you will then assemble to your satisfaction. Plus, if you sleep with a partner and are searching for a mattress with different firmness levels, Naturepedic is more than happy to create a personalized split layout for you and your bedmate.  Best Mattress For Light Person

BEST HYBRID

When some sleepers have particular feels that they want from their mattresses (e.g., luxurious foam or elastic coils), an even larger majority of us prefer a combo platter of sorts when it comes to our beds. We like memory foam but don’t need five inches of the stuff to feel comfortable. We want sinkage, but not too much, and a dollop of contouring, but only if it’s counteracted by the bouncy support of pocketed coils.

If any of this sounds familiar, you might be in the market for a hybrid mattress. These beds ditch the”all-X” constructions of different models in favor of ones that combine materials to get a sleeping experience that really does it all.

DREAMCLOUD

The great thing about hybrid mattresses is their ability to unite the pressure relief of foam with the aligning support of springs and the DreamCloud does just that. The gentle foam on top is wonderful for comfort and the latex layers actually help dissipate body heat to help sleep a bit cooler.

The DreamCloud’s pocketed coil system gives the mattress a good feeling like a traditional innerspring mattress. The blend of latex layers and bounce from the coil system cause the sleeper to feel more on top of the mattress, allowing them to change positions without feeling stuck in the layers.

NEST BEDDING ALEXANDER HYBRID

With their ultra-supportive pocketed coil systems, many hybrids are amazing for sleepers who suffer with chronic pain. However, I would say my favorite from the bunch would have to be the Nest Bedding Alexander Hybrid, which unites this service with a super-soft foam-quilted cover for pressure relief.

This means that whenever you lie on the bed, you’re going to experience immediate comfort as you sink through the cover and in the gel-infused memory foam directly below it. The materials are intended to fill in the area at your lumbar area and alleviate the formation of pressure points throughout your body.

BROOKLYN BEDDING SIGNATURE

And last but certainly not least, no hybrid category would be complete without a nod to the Brooklyn Bedding Signature. This hybrid is a revamped version of the brand’s flagship mattress and combines lush foam with pocketed coils for an impressive sleeping experience.

Here, the relief component comes in four inches of the brand’s proprietary TitanFlex foam, a soft substance that also responds quickly to pressure. This bounce is doubled as soon as you add in the mattress’s pocketed coil system, which imbues the mattress with some outstanding lift. The resulting structure allows you to sink in for lovely comfort while at the same time keeping you positioned on top of the mattress, a win-win in my book.

BEST MEMORY FOAM

What would a best mattress manual be without a section devoted to memory foam? Just about any bed-in-a-box retailer uses the material in some manner, either quilted to a cover or as the primary relaxation layer of one of its mattresses.  Best Mattress For Light Person

As a bed material, memory foam is famous for its deep contouring and sinkage. At their best, these properties can supply the sleeper with tremendous pressure relief and comfort. However, the foam may also overheat and produce too extreme of a”hug” that’ll leave you feeling trapped in the mattress. The key, then, is balance and finding a mattress that understands how to do memory foam right.

NECTAR

Featuring several layers of memory foam (including a inch quilted into the cover), the Nectar mattress is an ideal fit for anyone looking for a bed that truly embodies the classic material. What this translates to is a ton of sinkage and body contouring to get some super pleasing pressure relief.

And while memory foam has a small reputation for overheating, Nectar employs a gel infusion in its own foam layers to ensure that things stay cool while you sleep. Add to this a comparatively low motion transfer and you have got yourself a bed that’s as comfy for one as it’s for two.

AMERISLEEP

If you’re interested in buying a memory foam mattress chiefly for its pressure-relieving advantages, you may want to think about snagging one of the great beds in the Amerisleep suite of mattresses. The line boasts five distinct models, which vary from AS1 (super firm) all the way to AS5 (pillowy soft).

While the firmness range this is quite intense, what unifies these mattresses is their excellent use of memory foam. As employed in the Amerisleep line, the memory foam functions in tandem with the other materials to soothe restlessness, provide fantastic comfort, and dissipate motion disturbance throughout the structure.

LOOM & LEAF

Another terrific memory foam option is your Loom & Leaf, which would be my top pick for couples. It features a super-soft foam-quilted cover, a gel-infused comfort layer, and a section of memory foam for compression service.

This combo of lush materials allows the bed to truly embody all the best aspects of the classic material, namely its profound body contouring and sinkage. If you and your partner are both fans of memory foam or could simply benefit from the awesome pressure relief it will provide, you can’t go wrong with this mattress.

BEST LATEX

If memory foam’s not really your thing, maybe you’ll be in the market for a mattress constructed with latex. Unlike memory foam, this material is famous for its bounce, cooling, and responsiveness, producing beds which are equally comfortable and buoyant.

For my money, the best latex mattresses use the foam to endow the arrangement with elevator and breathability, either as a fun accent involving softer layers or as a major star in its own right. Another great advantage of latex is that it’s relatively simple to produce organically, making it a fantastic pick for environmentally conscious sleepers.  Best Mattress For Light Person

ZENHAVEN

If you need something with a great deal of bounce, consider going for a firmer latex mattress such as the Zenhaven. This one’s entirely built of organic Talalay latex, making for a dense bed that is both buoyant and pressure-relieving.

While you’re planning to sink in slightly through the top comfort layer, the latex does a fantastic job of lifting up the sleeper and out of the construction, helping to keep the spine in a terrific alignment. Not to mention that this mattress is reversible, featuring both a lavish orientation (average firmness rating of 5.4/10) and a gentle firm one (average firmness rating of 6.75/10), meaning you can always change things up to satisfy your requirements.

CEDAR

For those eco-friendly dreamers eager to get their hands on an remarkable latex mattress, the Cedar from Brentwood Home might be the perfect bed.

The mattress is built with a normal hybrid layout of foam comfort layers and a tall part of individually wrapped coils, but what sets it apart are the green materials used throughout. A natural wool cover gives way to a series of natural latex layers, which make up the comfort section of the mattress. And below the pocketed coils, you’ll find a coconut husk base, which offers the structure with some stability.

NEST BEDDING HYBRID LATEX

And finally, there is the Nest Bedding Hybrid Latex, which is my best pick for anyone looking for a latex hybrid.

This mattress is built with layers of organic cotton, all-natural Talalay latex foam, and pocketed coils, stacking up to an impressive 13 inches of comfort. The combination of materials creates a pleasant medium-firm texture (my testers gave it an average firmness score of 6.4/10) that provides plenty of pressure relief without that stuck-in-the-bed feeling. And as with other latex mattresses, this Nest bed sleeps super-cool.

BEST BUDGET

Whether their materials warrant the cost or not, the unfortunate truth is that the majority of beds are really pricey. While you must always consider a mattress purchase as an investment in your general well-being, this doesn’t mean you will need to shell out thousands of dollars to secure a great night’s rest.

In fact, there are a lot of marvelous beds out there that aren’t just incredibly comfortable but also affordable enough to leave both you and your wallet grinning from ear to ear. Continue reading for some best-value mattress picks.

GHOSTBED

My favorite mattress for the price is the GhostBed, which combines latex, gel-infused memory foam, and durable poly foam to get a sleeping experience that’s cool, supportive, and incredibly pressure-relieving. The bed also has great motion transfer and edge support, which makes for a well-rounded mattress that’s as great for a single sleeper because it is for a pair of bedmates with different sleep preferences. With all of these terrific qualities, this bed must be super-expensive, right? Wrong! A GhostBed queen only costs $795, which is quite the steal in the internet mattress world.

TUFT & NEEDLE

Tuft & Needle has long been a favorite among bed-in-a-box enthusiasts, as much for its no-fuss foam structure because of its low price point. In comparison to other mattresses on the market, its queen size price of only $575 is super-affordable and accessible to sleepers of all different budgets. When you add in its excellent motion transfer, deep pressure relief, and buoyant, medium-firm feel, this is a mattress that’s truly hard to pass up.

SPINDLE

If you are looking to snag a good deal on a more luxurious mattress, then look no farther than the Spindle. This bed is crafted with all-natural materials, including wool batting, organic cotton, and three layers of Dunlop latex. What is unique about the Spindle is that it is fully adjustable. After filling out a quick questionnaire (outlining your weight, age, and sleep tastes ), Spindle will send you a customized package of latex layers, which you’ll then assemble at home to your own specifications. The end result is a bouncy and cool mattress tailor-made to your comfort at a price that can not be beat.

BEST MATTRESSES FOR COUPLES

When considering what makes a bed great for couples, I consider a few different factors. Namely, I’m interested in figuring out how much of the surface area of the mattress you’ll have the ability to use and whether you’re likely to be bothered by your spouse’s moves in the middle of the night.

That means I’m going to be drawn to beds which feature less movement transfer and quality edge support. I will also be on the watch for mattresses which exhibit feels that appeal to sleepers with different tastes, since even the most harmonious partners can snooze in different ways.

NECTAR

Whether you are just moving in with a new partner or struggling to make ends meet after a big wedding, value can sometimes be the most important element for couples to consider when making a big mattress purchase. So before getting intimidated by some of the heftier price tags in this roundup, rest easy: I have you!

Say hello to the Nectar mattress. Constructed with a thick layer of memory foam, this mattress gives a luxurious vibe for a fraction of the cost of similar mattresses on the market: At $795 for a queen, it is practically a steal! This combined with the mattress’s exceedingly great motion transfer results make it a excellent solution for couples on a budget.

SAPIRA

As I mentioned up top, edge support will be among the main things for couples to take into account, as it’ll let them know whether they’ll be able to use the whole surface of the bed. While there are a good deal of mattresses offering great edge support, I’d say my favorite would have to be the Sapira.

This hybrid mattress is created by Leesa and employs a mixture of Avena and memory foams for stress relief in addition to a pocketed coil system for support. The interplay of these various materials produces a solid sense of security that’s as powerful at the center since it is at the sides, ensuring that you’ll never feel as if you’re going to roll out of bed in the middle of the night.

BEST FOR SIDE SLEEPERS

If purchasing a new mattress, side sleepers are interested in being extra-careful about the kind of bed they purchase. When it’s too firm, pressure points are likely to form in the shoulders and hips. If it’s too soft, the sinkage could throw the spine out of alignment.

Personally, I find the best mattress kind for side sleepers is one which has gentle top layers for cushiony support in addition to a good foundation to maintain these plush materials stabilized. The trick is to find a mattress that pushes back as much as you push in so that you never feel totally engulfed by the arrangement.

TOMORROW SLEEP

When side sleepers hear about the addition of pocketed coils in a bed, their first idea might be something along the lines of,”This bed is going to be far too firm for me!” Sometimes, this is correct, but other times, it is not. Take the Tomorrow Sleep, by way of instance, which is designed with coils, yes, but also a great deal of pressure-relieving foam.

The mattress comes in two firmness options (soft and firm), each of which include memory foam and poly foam edge support. I would suggest that side sleepers check out the soft model, as it includes three inches of memory foam up top for some pleasant design and relief.

CASPER WAVE

Billed as Casper’s most innovative mattress, the Wave is a fantastic alternative for side sleepers, as its five-foam-layer structure is designed especially with pressure relief in mind.

This construction includes an interesting mix of bouncy latex, plush memory foam, and durable poly foam, which generates both deep body contouring and a nice lift. So while your shoulders and hips are very likely to experience a lot of cushiony support, this sinkage isn’t going to leave you feeling trapped at the materials.

BEST AT SLEEPING COOL

For a few of you out there, comfort will be less about pressure relief and support and more about temperature regulation. If you are a sleeper who runs hot, your main focus is most likely going to be on figuring out the way to sleep as cool as possible.

As you begin your search, stay on the lookout for beds with individually wrapped coils, as the spaces between the packets encourage airflow throughout the structure. Latex is also great for cooling, since the material is excellent at absorbing and dispersing heat. Memory foam is traditionally not the best at keeping things cool, but frequently, the material will be infused with gel to combat this feature.

BROOKLYN BEDDING AURORA

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora is a fantastic mattress for those who must sleep cool. Boasting a hybrid design, the mattress is constructed with a super-tall pocketed coil support system (8 inches of individually wrapped coils), which generates dynamic breathability.

The mattress also has a phase shift cover, which is actually cool to the touch and helps to absorb the sleeper’s body warmth. In addition to these terrific features, the Aurora also has amazing edge support and motion transfer, which would allow it to be an awesome option for couples looking to keep things cool in the bedroom.

PURPLE

While there are a great deal of things for sleepers to appreciate about a Purple (both its own pressure-relieving support and fantastic movement transfer results come to mind), the attribute that may be most attractive is that it’s technically”temperature neutral.”

So what exactly does this term mean? Great question! Basically, it means that the bed’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer (yes, that purple grid) is especially good at dispersing heat due to its open structure. This creates a pleasant balance throughout the mattress and ensures that one’s inner body temperature will not be a preventative factor in getting a good night’s sleep.  Best Mattress For Light Person

GHOSTBED LUXE

Marketed as the”coolest bed in the world,” the GhostBed Luxe was created for folks that sleep hot.

The mattress combats overheating with a phase-change cover, which regulates body temperature, in addition to a thick comfort layer of gel memory foam. As we discussed in the intro, gel infusions help counteract the overheating properties of the substance, allowing sleepers to enjoy all of the foam’s great benefits (sinkage, body contouring( pressure relief) without becoming too hot.

ADDITIONAL BEST MATTRESS CATEGORIES

We’ve got plenty of best mattress choices across Sleepopolis, and below are a few other popular categories, including the best mattress for heavy sleepers (250 lbs and up), best for combo sleepers, and best for stomach sleepers. Make sure to check around our site for a lot more picks based on your own preferences, positions, and physique!

BEST FOR HEAVIER SLEEPERS

When searching for a new mattress, it can feel as if there are a whole lot of complicating factors to think about: materials, design, and price are only a few. While all of these are important things to consider, one factor which should never make your mattress look harder is your weight.

If you’re a heavier sleeper, this might seem easier said than done, but there are actually a great deal of fantastic beds out there built for sleepers of all different sizes, weights, and body types. These mattresses require everything that works well in different models (satisfying pressure relief, great support, cozy materials) and amp them up for a much more optimal sleeping experience.

BIG FIG

My favourite mattress for heavier sleepers is hands down the Big Fig, as it was specifically intended for those who weigh more than 300 pounds.

A hybrid construction combines a high part of durable poly foams with bouncy pocketed coils to get a firm and supportive feel. This blend of materials is finessed to keep sleepers lying on top of the mattress as opposed to in it, which will be important for those who tend to sink directly through softer layers. Plus, every huge Fig includes a specialized foundation, which adds even more durability and shape to the overall structure.

WINKBEDS PLUS

For heavier couples, there’s no better mattress on the market than the WinkBeds Plus. This mattress can also be outfitted with a hybrid design, which brings together bouncy latex with individually wrapped coils to get a sleep that’s as pressure-relieving as it is supportive.

I should add that the pocketed coil system is zoned, providing the mattress with much more specialized support. As a consequence, that you’ll able to use the whole surface area of the bed and aren’t likely to feel stuck in the arrangement, which can sometimes be a problem for heavier sleepers lounging on beds not designed for their needs.

NEST BEDDING ALEXANDER SIGNATURE

Contrary to popular belief, memory foam isn’t the enemy of heavier sleepers. Though some say the material’s classic design and sinkage properties don’t provide enough support to sleepers of different sizes, I’d argue that when combined with the ideal materials, memory foam brings a lot to the party!

A wonderful example of how this works is at the Nest Bedding Alexander Signature. The sleeper immediately meets a thick slab of 4-inch memory foam, which yields incredible body contouring. But after sinking through this layer, they’ll encounter a collection of firmer foams, which help establish a healthy spine alignment and a great deal of solid support.

BEST FOR COMBO SLEEPERS

Having trouble deciding if you’re a stomach, back, or side sleeper? Do you tend to fall asleep in one position and wake up in an entirely different one? Perhaps you’re what I like to refer to as a combo sleeper, or someone who dozes in numerous positions.

What this means for your mattress hunt is that you are basically going to be searching for a bed having an abysmal feel, preferably one which strikes a satisfying balance between all of its different materials. So if it is a hybrid, as an instance, you’ll want to be certain that the pressure relief of the foam does not cut into the support of the pocketed coils and vice versa.

Below, check out some of the beds that I believe strike this balance especially well.

LEESA

For people who spend time slumbering in numerous positions, there is no better pick than the flagship Leesa mattress. The balanced foam texture combines pressure relief and support for a sleep that is sure to satisfy a wide range of sleepers.

I should note that the mattress is on the firmer side (my testers gave it an average firmness rating of 7/10) and does a excellent job of lifting the hips up and from the structure. Additionally, the mattress’s top layer of Avena foam imbues the mattress with another oomph of inviting bounce to fight that stuck-in-the-bed feeling.

NEW PURPLE

Speaking of supportive bounce, among the bounciest beds I have tried so far in 2018 is the New Purple. This hybrid revamp of the brand’s flagship model comes in three different firmness levels, all which are designed to satisfy a wide assortment of sleepers.

In addition to the buoyant lift from the layer of pocketed coils, the mattress also features a bunch of pressure relief thanks to its hyper-elastic polymer comfort grid. This section is fantastic at evenly distributing weight across the bed, allowing it to specifically respond to different amounts of pressure from every region of the body. It follows that no matter how you sleep, you’re bound to come across some fairly incredible comfort.

NECTAR

Designed with a combination of memory foam and high-density poly foam, the Nectar is a super-comfortable mattress that provides awesome pressure relief in multiple positions.

While the nearly four inches of memory foam up top may make stomach and back sleepers run for the hills, the mattress actually has a nice moderate firmness to it, so you will find a solid mix of sinkage and support. This feel will satisfy a lot of different sleepers, from those who need cushioning in the shoulders all of the way to those in need of targeted relief in the lumbar region.

BEST MATTRESSES FOR STOMACH SLEEPERS

If you’re a stomach sleeper, you’ll want to find a firm mattress that’ll position your shoulders and hips in an even line. Sound easy enough? Unfortunately, not necessarily. A lot of beds which bill themselves as being firm sacrifice good support from the name of said firmness, resulting in mattresses that don’t do much of anything in any way.   Best Mattress For Light Person

So the question remains: Are there beds out there that could keep a stomach sleeper’s body level enough for healthy spinal alignment while also being comfortable? The answer is a resounding YES!

For some examples, check out my favorite mattresses for stomach sleepers below.

WINKBEDS

Featuring coil-on-coil construction, the WinkBeds hybrid creates a wonderful mattress alternative for stomach sleepers. The combination of both microcoils and pocketed coils creates an ultra-supportive sleeping experience that keeps the sleeper positioned on top of the bed.

An added bonus is that the mattress also has a plush pillow top for stress relief and comes in three different firmness options, so you’ll definitely have the ability to locate a model that matches your specific sleep needs.

ZENHAVEN

For those stomach sleepers in search of an all-foam mattress, you can’t really go wrong with the Zenhaven, which contrasts a bounty of buoyant support from its all-latex construction.

As you’ll likely experience a little bit of sinkage when you first lie down on the bed, you might realize that the layers work together to buoy you in addition to the mattress. This is great for stomach sleepers, who have to maintain their shoulders and hips from sinking too far into the arrangement, which may throw their spinal alignment way out of whack. I should note that the Zenhaven comes in two firmness options: plush or firm.

BEST MATTRESS REQUIREMENTS AND SCORING

Finding the best mattress manufacturers for 2018 wasn’t an easy task. There are hundreds of organizations in the world, and I personally tested out and reviewed dozens of different models in my quest to answer the seemingly innocuous question: what’s the best mattress?

And even though I’ve landed on what I believe are some really fantastic selections, I would like to acknowledge that this list is constantly evolving and that my remarks are likely to change as newer beds emerge on the market.

That being said, all mattresses included on this list had to fulfill the following criteria:

TIME FRAME

My selections for the best mattresses to purchase in 2018 all had to be available in 2017 for at least six months prior to this review, with a slight advantage given to those models available for a year or longer.

Why is this important? For one thing, the longer a business’s been in business, the more confidence I have in its ability to deliver on guarantee promises, return policies, and product availability. Secondly, it tells me that people are responding to its products, which means the materials are durable and the designs are well-executed. And finally, it implies that the organization will be around for the long haul, making it a solid investment.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

In my view, the overall customer experience is at least as important as an exceptional item. If a brand has an amazing mattress but negligent customer service representatives or confusing policies, I can’t in good faith include it on this list.

So how do I make sure that a company has top-notch customer support? I’m constantly scouring the internet for third party reviews, looking closely to see if users have been neglected or obtained lackluster service from a particular retailer. I also keep my eyes on social media for any brand red flags, which I then investigate on my own.

Furthermore, I rely on you all! If I notice that our amazing Sleepopolis readers are responding in a particularly good or bad way to a business, I’ll adjust my rankings so, always giving precedence to brands that have a killer history of positive customer service reviews.

VALUE

As more and more bed-in-a-box companies surface in the electronic ether, value has become an increasingly important element for me to look at when choosing the best mattresses of any given year.

And when I refer to value, I am not just talking about a very low price point. A excellent value is attained when the selling price is well below the average market cost for what you would ordinarily will need to cover a mattress of the quality and performance. In this way, mattresses in all points on the pricing scale can be considered an exceptional value.

COMPANY INTEGRITY

Last, but certainly not least, let’s talk about business integrity. While different folks will think about integrity in different ways, for me, it comes down to a few crucial questions:

  • How can a company treat its clients, both those who are happy and those with complaints?
  • How transparent is a new about the types of materials it uses and from where it resources those substances?
  • Has the company received any accolades voted on by users?
  • What, if any, outreach did the company do in 2017? In 2018?
  • What are some of the brand’s key values? How does it enact those values in its day-to-day operations?

It doesn’t take long to figure out the answers to these questions, and after I do, I use them to inform my positions as much as relaxation or price. In my experience, the best mattress manufacturers are those that not only want to be the best but truly need to do right by the sleepers who rest in their beds night after night.

If you’re seeking the best mattress, there are a couple of other questions you may want answered also.

WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR IN A MATTRESS?

To find their best mattress, most buyers will consider price, firmness, adjustability, and sleep style before purchasing. You may want to consult your doctor first if you experience any kind of pain after sleeping. This can allow you to pick the best mattress for you.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU NEED A NEW MATTRESS?

How long is a mattress supposed to last? Regardless of what kind of mattress you purchase, most should be replaced every ten years for a good night’s rest and optimal comfort. Even if you locate your dream mattress, you will want to think about a replacement in 10 years.  Best Mattress For Light Person
